AZ SELECTS READY FOR SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON AND TOURNAMENT PLAY

As the New Year begins, the AZ Selects are geared up for several tournaments.  First up will be the 5th Annual MLK San Jose Jr. Sharks  tournament Jan. 18-20. The U14/16 team will be participating in the Los Alamos Girls Festival Jan. 25-26 which is always an exciting venue as it is outdoors. Next up will be the 5th Annual AGYHA Invitational which is quickly becoming one of the premier all-girls events on the West Coast. This year more than 26 teams will be competing. Participants include teams from Canada, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Colorado, Oregon and California. Finally, on March 6-9, AGYHA is the host organization for the RMD Girls and Women's Regional Championships. This is the first stop toward the National Championship to be held this year in Pennsylvania.

AZ SELECTS U12 TEAM MEET WITH OLYMPIAN ANGELA RUGGIERO!

Littleton, Colorado - While participating in the 2nd annual Chill on the Hill tournament, the U12 team met with Olympian and Harvard graduate Angela Ruggiero. She told the girls that since she started her hockey career in California, that she knew exactly what it was like often being the only girl playing against the boys. There are plenty of opportunities today for girls in hockey however. She told them to set their goals high and to keep having fun. Hockey is a great way to meet lots of lifelong friends and that being a good student is most important. Graduating from Harvard ranked right up with winning the Gold Medal in Naganno. All of the girls were thoroughly impressed with her positive attitude and I don't think they will forget holding real Olympic medals for some time, at least until they have the chance to be holding their own! Keep working hard and it will happen!  - Coach Rick
